When it comes to a leaking pond liner some leaks are easier to fix than others.
A Dropping water level in your pond could be a indication there is a hole or leak in your pond liner, but don't worry this can easily be fixed by repairing it with a repair kit or sealant if possible or by replacing the liner. But before undergoing what can be a costly procedure make sure its the liner leaking and not something else, common causes of water loss are as follows.
Hot weather- hot weather during our summer months can last for weeks if not months in turn you can expect to lose 1-2 inches a week, and if you have a waterfall or water feature that number could go up to 8inchs a week, anything over 2 inch's in 24hours is likely due to a leak.
Objects blocking waterfalls or waterways- If there is something obstructing the water from its natural flow and directing the water elsewhere (not back to your pond ) this will cause a major drop in your pond level.
Leaks on your pond circuit- loose fittings, split hoses, over flowing filters all these will cause water loss.
A quick check you can do to see if its your liner that is leaking.
Fill your pond with water to the usual level it would hold water at.
Unplug or switch off all pond pumps or equipment
Now let the pond stand for 24 hours by doing this you are eliminating any out side factors that could be dur to your water loss.
Check the water the following day, if the water level has dropped dramatically your looking at a liner leak.
Now to try and locate the leak.
One of the best ways to locate and the extent of the damage is to simply let it drain down until it reaches the point of escape and stops dropping, if you have fish you would need to transfer them to a holding tank with at least aeration to reduce the stress to the fish, as your leak could be very deep in the pond, you may need the help of a professional for this. If your leak is major once your water level stabilizes you will notice the tear but if its small you might notice bubbling at the area, if your still having trouble finding the small leak a little tip, refill the pond a little and a add a little condensed milk this will be drawn towards the hole, depending on the repair method, small holes can be patched but if the hole is much larger or the liner is many years old its better to re line the pond as only more problems will occur.
So to sum up, do the checks we suggested first, then fill up, turn everything off, transfer your fish and see where the water level stops, access the liner and determine what method best suits you to get your pond ship shape and back in running order

Good pond liner repair blog. I’d like to recommend Pond Pro 2000, it’s a US-manufactured pond sealant that is available worldwide. It’s a primer-free application that’ll last three times longer than other acrylic pond sealants in the market. It can be applied easily on all types of surfaces like fountains, waterfalls, pools, and many more. It’s the only liquid butyl rubber in the world. It's available in black and white colors and quarts and gallons. It's UV-resistant, puncture-resistant, and non-toxic, so it's 100% safe for fish, plants, and other aquatic life within the pond.
